ESC LABORATOIRE Omega Boost - Horse recovery and ration balance
Omegas come from lipids and are essential fatty acids: they are indispensable to the functioning of the body, which cannot manufacture them. They must therefore be supplied through the diet.
Omegas are involved in numerous physiological reactions, in particular :
Omega-3
The list of benefits is impressive, from the cardiovascular system to the brain, bones and liver. Omega-3s have an anti-inflammatory action. They act against symptoms of anxiety and are fundamental to brain development. They prevent asthma, reduce liver fat and strengthen bones. Finally, they provide the body with energy.
Omega-6
They also play a role in bone health and brain function. They promote hair growth, improve skin quality, help regulate metabolism and reduce allergic reactions and arthritic symptoms.
The omega-3 / omega-6 balance in a horse's diet is important, as omega-3s are mainly converted into anti-inflammatory molecules, while omega-6s are converted into pro-inflammatory compounds.
The optimal omega-3 to omega-6 ratio for horses is currently estimated at between 1:4 and 1:6 omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids.
