WHITE WILLOW - Salix albaFamily Salicaceae

White willow is a tree in the Salicaceae family. Common in wetlands throughout Europe and temperate regions, it is often cultivated for wicker production. Willow branches provide the wicker. The leaves are deciduous, 5 to 12 cm long, very narrow and silvery-faced. The bark is harvested from branches 2 to 3 years old for medicinal use.

Main plant components : Salicylates (1.5 to 11%), flavonic and heterosidic derivatives of the salicoside group, salicortin, fragilin, populin, salireposide, tremulacin. Phenolic compounds: triandrin, vimalin and aromatic derivatives, saligenin syringic aldehyde, salicylic acid, para-hydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid. Flavonoids: heterosides of quercetol, luteolin, eriodictyol, naringenin, ampelopsin and isosalipurpuroside. Tannins: dimeric and trimeric proanthocyanidols (8-20%)
