Short shelf life horse feed - Promotions and special offers
Take advantage of our promotions and special offers on short shelf life horse feed.
Our promotions on complementary horse feed? These are special operations designed with our brands to better manage stock quantities. You'll benefit from attractive discounts on products with a normal expiry date, averaging over 9 or 12 months.
What is a short shelf life for horses?
The short expiration date (DLUO ) is one of the most important terms to check before buying supplementary feed for horses. Not to be confused with a BBD (Best Before Date), the UBD is NOT an expiration date. It simply indicates the period during which the product retains its 100% nutritional efficacy.
A short expiry date generally concerns dietary supplements rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements, enzymes or probiotics, which degrade more rapidly under the effect of heat, light or humidity. These active ingredients gradually lose their potency once the expiry date has passed.
The sale of a product whose expiry date has passed is perfectly permissible. In fact, the product can be sold within three months of its expiry date. This helps limit waste. Once you've bought the product, you're free to use it with your horse whenever you like, within the recommended limit of three months after the stated DLUO. After this three-month period, the 100% effectiveness of the product is no longer guaranteed by the manufacturer.
How to use and store your food supplements with a short DLUO?
To maximize the shelf life of your horse feed and preserve its quality, follow these essential recommendations:
- Optimum storage: Keep your feed supplements in a cool (below 20°C), dry place, away from direct light. Heat and UV rays rapidly degrade vitamins, minerals and probiotics.
- Hermetically sealed containers: Use opaque jars or sachets that you carefully reseal after each use. This limits exposure to oxygen and humidity, which alter the active ingredients.
- Keep away from contaminants: Don't place your products near human food or other chemicals that may release vapors.
- FIFO method: Apply the "first in, first out" system to use the oldest products first and avoid losses.
- Regular checking: Visually inspect your supplements before each use. Any change in color, unusual odor or caking indicates spoilage, even before the expiry date.
Plan your feed consumption
Stock management of supplementary feed for horses must be planned from the outset. Calculate the number of horses to be fed, the daily ration for each animal and the total duration of treatment to determine the quantity required.
For example, with a short shelf-life mineral or trace element mix, divide the total weight of the product by the recommended daily dose. This lets you know exactly how many days the product will last, and whether its expiry date gives you enough time to consume it.
For senior horses or those needing a specific supplement, respecting the short shelf-life ensures that all the ingredients (magnesium, electrolytes, oil, fiber, etc.) retain their effectiveness in supporting your animal's health, muscle mass and metabolism.
Why choose short shelf-life foods?
Short-Out-of-Date products offer an excellent opportunity to save on quality compound feeds and supplements. You're buying fresh products, formulated with the same ingredients and nutritional content as normal expiry date references, but at a reduced price.
This page lists supplementary feeds for horses with a short use-by date. Currently no products are available, but the list will be updated as soon as new batches are added, enabling owners to quickly identify limited-use products and buy fresh SLED horse feeds before they expire.
Important: If in doubt about the efficacy of a product or its post-DLUO consumption, contact our customer service department or your veterinarian before administering the supplement to your horse.
